Ford Explorer Ford Explorer is a midsize SUV with body-on-frame construction. Available with V6 or V8 power, the Explorer competes against the TrailBlazer, Grand Cherokee, 4Runner, and Pathfinder. Explorer was completely redesigned in 2006 and we were pleased with the new steering, new suspension, and new brakes, all of which were vastly improved over the previous-generation.

Default Transfer case project

So me and my buddy went down to local u pull-it And pulled a transfer case off a 2001 Explorer XLT with the 4.0sohc just like mine.

Here is the question we wanted to do some work on the transfer case to see if we could successfully Weld the differential inside so the power split Is 50/50 therefore the rear tires wouldnt spin unless the front did.

As for my recent post im not thinking about putting it on my truck dont worry But i notice there is a chain the the transfer case and a viscous clutch What would i need to weld together to completely lock the front and rear axle together???

This way it would be truely a 4wd

Thanks

Jared.

Well it is always 4WD no matter what. I would imagine that would put alot of stress on your u-joints and trannylocking the 2 together like that. they need to be able to move independently alittle i imagine. And which u-pull it did you go to. i thought they only stocked ~99's and lower

So back me up on this gueys I believe i figured out how to affectivly weld the Transfer case together to get a 50/50 split of power and never have any speed difference between the front and rear axle.

After My friend And I have worked with this old BW4405 We decided to weld

The apply Cam to the armature to lock the Assembly In this case it would completely lock the Front and rear axle together.

If i missed anything let me know.

I tested in on some gravel tonight In auto the rear still spins but not a whole lot See Auto Is basically like AWD it allows for difference in wheel Speed then i tested it in 4X4Hi with my front on concreate and the rear on gravel the rear spun but Not much at all and i felt it pull nicely.

But what im looking for is a complete 100% Lock of front to rear axle Meaning if i had the rear tires on a solid sheet of ice and the front on concrete and i floored it The rear couldnt spin at all unless the front did.

So that welding procedure sounds like it could work yes or no?? Or what would i do to achieve this 100%lock with this t-case.
