Ford Explorer Ford Explorer is a midsize SUV with body-on-frame construction. Available with V6 or V8 power, the Explorer competes against the TrailBlazer, Grand Cherokee, 4Runner, and Pathfinder. Explorer was completely redesigned in 2006 and we were pleased with the new steering, new suspension, and new brakes, all of which were vastly improved over the previous-generation.

Default Question about a 1996 Ford Explorer

Hello,

I am planning on buying a 1996 Ford Explorer. I'm sure exactly what model, but I do know that it is 2 door.

It has 185,000 miles, has never been in a wreck, has perfect interior and exterior, has never had any engine trouble, and has had all regular maintenance done.

Right now I drive a 2000 Honda Civic, I know the gas mileage for the Explorer will be a lot worse, but I want to switch to an SUV, mostly because SUVs are safer than sub-compact cars. Isn't the insurance cheaper as well?

From what I have said about the Explorer, do you think it would be a good buy that would last me? I am going to take it for a test drive and to a mechanic this Friday, and if they say it looks like a good car I am buying it Saturday. I just want to know if anyone has an Explorer with the same amout of miles (or more) than the one I want and the problems they have or have not had with it.

So please give me some feedback and let me know if you think it would be a good buy to last me atleast 4 years (I don't drive a lot). And any problems that I might encounter, or that you have encountered with an Explorer that has the same amout/more miles.

Thank you,
Travis
