Ford Explorer Ford Explorer is a midsize SUV with body-on-frame construction. Available with V6 or V8 power, the Explorer competes against the TrailBlazer, Grand Cherokee, 4Runner, and Pathfinder. Explorer was completely redesigned in 2006 and we were pleased with the new steering, new suspension, and new brakes, all of which were vastly improved over the previous-generation.

Yep, its true. You just need to take it into the ford dealership, and they will swap it out. I never got the recall notice about it, and I have the faulty harness. When I took it in, they insisted it was fine, even though I know it's not. I'm not going to bother with it now, since it is always parked outside, and it will be being replaced with a new explorer in a month or so. I'm thinking a 98 or 99, but I can't decide if I want another sport, or a 4 door. I want a manual, but I want the V8 also...decisions, decisions...sorry for getting off topic, but yeah, just bring it down to the ford dealership and get that taken care of ASAP.

The only problem is the manual was only offered witht the OHV if im correct, and the 5.0 is a gas hog.. if you get a 98-99ish OHC make sure you get a computer tune ASAP!!!

My notice does not state the years involved. You can call your dealer though and inquire about "campaign or recall# 09S09". This is the number that applies to this recall. It also covers several other Ford models as well. Found that out because I also own a 2002 Windstar that is also affected. The Explorer goes in tomorrow morning and the Windstar in the afternoon. Dealer says about an hour for each fix.
