Ford ExplorerFord Explorer is a midsize SUV with body-on-frame construction. Available with V6 or V8 power, the Explorer competes against the TrailBlazer, Grand Cherokee, 4Runner, and Pathfinder. Explorer was completely redesigned in 2006 and we were pleased with the new steering, new suspension, and new brakes, all of which were vastly improved over the previous-generation.
I have a 2002 V6 Explorer about 60,000 miles. A/C has been blowing warm air and the compressor kicks on and off every few seconds. I bought one of the Artic Freeze charger kits from Autozone with the gauge. So I followed the instructions and as the car is running the gauge shows 0-25 (needs refill) then the compressor kicks in and it jumps to 40-45pds(no refill) and then off again back to 0-25.....any ideas? New clutch or compressor/relay? Thanks!!!!
Are you sure?It sounds backwards pressure drops on the charging port when the compressor is on and goes up when the compressor is off.Did you add any freon?
Well, I was going to add freon but I was not sure if I should with gauge going up 45psi I did not want to overfill. So when it kicks off it will go up to about 70psi correct? If that's true then how do I know when to stop adding if the clutch keeps cycling on/off? Thanks.
The clutch probably shouldnt cycle at all if the outside temp is around 90 degrees. You can jump the low side switch to keep the compressor from cycling temperarily.
2002 Ford Explorer AC clutch cycles on and off, blows warm air
I have a 2002 Explorer that blows warm air. Had it checked by the dealer and an independent shop. Both said same thing, that they couldn't find a leak but added a pound and half freon. Paid $93 two times now. It worked for after freon add both time then back to blowing warm air. Compressor clutch cycles on and off every few seconds. Don't know what to think or do.
