Ford Explorer Ford Explorer is a midsize SUV with body-on-frame construction. Available with V6 or V8 power, the Explorer competes against the TrailBlazer, Grand Cherokee, 4Runner, and Pathfinder. Explorer was completely redesigned in 2006 and we were pleased with the new steering, new suspension, and new brakes, all of which were vastly improved over the previous-generation.

Default Instant oil leak 91 4.0l

I was stopped at a light and watched my oil gauge move from right on mid range to nothing. I put the truck in neutral and reved and the oil pressure came back up for a moment.

Drove the two miles home and found that I was leaving an oil trail all over the road.

From underneath the whole bottom of the motor is covered. Started the truck and it looks like the oil is just streaming out of the oil pressure sending unit.

Please pardon my ignorance, but what should I look for besides the sending unit?

Thanks.

Unfortunately, they sometimes fail that way !

P.S. Reving your engine with zero oil prrssure is a good way to make it go BOOM !

I would suggest looking to see where it might be coming from (hose it down and wipe it clean)....might be your front or rear seal.....also check the valve covers as this is very vulnerable if you don't have the good fel pro steel gaskets....obviously the oil temp unit might be bad and that is where you are getting sporatic readings on your gauge
