Ford ExplorerFord Explorer is a midsize SUV with body-on-frame construction. Available with V6 or V8 power, the Explorer competes against the TrailBlazer, Grand Cherokee, 4Runner, and Pathfinder. Explorer was completely redesigned in 2006 and we were pleased with the new steering, new suspension, and new brakes, all of which were vastly improved over the previous-generation.
My 1999 Ford Explorer, 81,000 miles, was running rough - took it in and they discovered that it was either the head gasket or a cracked head. The worse of the two turned out to be the problem. The machine shop where the head was taken reported that five Explorer cracked heads had been brought in over the last month. Is there some recall that I don't know about or legal action being taken as this seems outrageous. In addition - last year I had to have transmission work done where the transmission seemed to actually rip up a piece of it for no apparent reason - any thoughts on this as well? Thanks for your responces.
I have a 99 Explorer with 90,000 mi and last night it began to run hot. Today I checked the radiator and it was full. The fan belt needs to be replaced but I dont think that is it. I let it run today and it started to overheat again and I smelled something like radiator fluid. I hope its not my head gasket or my engine block. Please tell me if there are any recalls or what it might be.
