Alternating turn signals mod

Alright, well, I did this and it works well. Here's what it is..it makes your marker bulb, the one that usually doesn't blink, blink alternating from the blinker bulbs.

Note: When attaching the wire, attach the ground FROM THE BULB, not the other end. I was a dumbass and did this at first without thinking. Thankfully it only blew the fuse, and not the flasher.

I decided to make a few diagrams to show simply how this is done. Note wire colors are for at 1996 Explorer. Wire colors may vary on yours, but the principal remains the same.

First, here's where the bulbs are located. You will be attaching the wire from the one labeled "corner" to either of the ones labeled "turn"



Once pulling out the corner lamp assembly, it is simple. I did this in less than 10 minutes start to finish.

Driver's side:

This shows the wires going to the corner marker bulb (2 wires) and the turn signal (3 wires)


Now, simply cut the black (ground) from the corner bulb and splice it into the green wire w/white stripe.

Passenger side:

Same as driver's side, but the turn signal leads are different color. Instead of being green w/ white stripe like on the driver's side, it is a white w/green strip wire. That's the the only difference.

It's very simple to do. You may also wish to cap off the loose ground wire that used to connect to the corner bulb. I'm not sure if leaving it open would cause any problems, but I just capped it anyway, just in case.

Note turn signals are blinking as usual, but instead of the corner lamp simply staying on as usual, it goes off when the other bulbs blink, causing a "strobe" effect.

Note that all three bulbs are blinking. The corner light is blinking too, now, just dimly. Nevertheless, all are blinking.

This video is rather pointless, but shows that nothing has changed with how the parking lights work.



Besides, the alternating is cool

If this ends up causing any problems with the flasher/fuses, I will post up. I doubt there will be, since nobody else who has done this has had problems with it (that I know of). Mine have been like this for a few weeks problem free, so far. I don't expect there would be any, though.
