Ford Explorer Ford Explorer is a midsize SUV with body-on-frame construction. Available with V6 or V8 power, the Explorer competes against the TrailBlazer, Grand Cherokee, 4Runner, and Pathfinder. Explorer was completely redesigned in 2006 and we were pleased with the new steering, new suspension, and new brakes, all of which were vastly improved over the previous-generation.

Default rythemic clicking in rear drivers side quarterpanel

This clicking started after 2002 Explorer was parked for about 1 hour and has stayed on ever since. It is clearly not tire related as it does this any time the motor is running. I think it may be fuel system related as ther are several hoses running into a rectagular box under the quarterpanel. Any help would be appreciated.

Switch the rear air blend dial from cold to heat, and see if it goes away. If it does then it could be the blend door motor.

I have the exact same issue in a 2002 Explorer with 55,000 mi. I opened the rear panel and disconnected the rear a/c unit and the clicking stopped. Now need to figure out how to get the rear a/c repaired

I had the same problem in my 2002 Explorer. They replaced the motor assembly - a/c door actuator. I believe the part number IL5Z*19E616*AA.

I have a 2002 Explorer with the same clicking noise whenever I have the rear A/C on. I found a TSB on this problem:

TSB #01126 -- SOME VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH THE MANUAL A/C SYSTEM MAY EXHIBIT A CONTINUOUS CLICKING NOISE FROM THE BLEND DOOR ACTUATOR WHENTHE BLOWER SPEED IS SET AT THE #2 POSITION AND THE TEMPERATURE CONTROL KNOB IS SET BETWEEN THE 12:00 AND 2:00 POSITIO (NHTSA ID #622673, JUNE 25 2001)

Does this mean that Ford will pay to fix it? My car is out of warranty. What did it cost to have yours fixed?

Default Clicking noise in left rear

My 2002 Explorer was still under warranty at the time, so it did not cost me a thing

Default Another 2002 Explorer here

Did a Google on this problem that just started today on my 2002 Explorer and found this site. Clicking sound on rear a/c. Was anyone able to fix this themselves? It is the Blend Door Motor (Actuator) from everything I read. Someone here put a part number IL52 19E616 aa but can't find it when doing a search. If someone was able to fix this themselves can you please email me a tusaz@comcast.net and let me know how to do it. I live in Tucson and right now A/C is on all the time and that clicking is driving me nuts not to mention I can't afford to take to shop because I know it will cost at lease $700 to fix. Thanks in advance.

Default Rear air clicking

I just fix mine. The problem is the plastic motors that control the blend doors on the rear air. They strip out and slip. Remove all the plastic from the left rear to expose the air unit. The only tool you will need for this is a #50 star socket to pull the lower seat belt bolt loose. Loosen the 3 bolts that hold the rear air in place (10mm)one you will need a deep well, and pull the the air unit forward from the front carefully and you will see the plastic motors. Should be white with wires pluging into the top of them. 3 8mm hold them in and they slid right out and you can replace them. It's easier to replace them both than trying to figure which one is bad. If one is broken, the other soon will be. Tell the dealer you need the rear air blend door motors. My parts #s were 1L2Z-19E616-BA 2L2Z-19E616-BA . I bought each motor wholesale for around $38 each. They retail for around $67. It's not a hard fix, about an hour. the hardest part is getting the seat belt bolt out. Good luck and email me any questions.

Default Difficult?

Is this replacement difficult to do yourself? I hate to pay the dealership, but also hate for my hubby to be frustrated. Any opinions would be appreciated!!!
