Ford Explorer Ford Explorer is a midsize SUV with body-on-frame construction. Available with V6 or V8 power, the Explorer competes against the TrailBlazer, Grand Cherokee, 4Runner, and Pathfinder. Explorer was completely redesigned in 2006 and we were pleased with the new steering, new suspension, and new brakes, all of which were vastly improved over the previous-generation.

Default Trans issue???

When I hit the accelerator, often there is a delay and then it wil jerk forward and accelerate normally, or sometimes the RPM indicator will go beyond 3 when accelerating. What could be the issue.

I'm no expert but from what I know it sounds like you have a band that is slipping.

Default Slipping

I have been having the same exact probelm. I have a 2002 Explorer and it has been slipping between 1000 and 2000 rpm. I took it to Ford and they told me that my Torque Converter is bad and would need to be replaced; along with the filter and seals: Quote $1187 NO WAY Ford is getting that money out of me. I have had nothing but problems with this SUV since I bought it, brand new. I only have 70K miles on it. Good Luck with your diagnosis.
