Ford Explorer Ford Explorer is a midsize SUV with body-on-frame construction. Available with V6 or V8 power, the Explorer competes against the TrailBlazer, Grand Cherokee, 4Runner, and Pathfinder. Explorer was completely redesigned in 2006 and we were pleased with the new steering, new suspension, and new brakes, all of which were vastly improved over the previous-generation.

Default no fuel after engine warms up

within the year i have replaced: fuel pressure regulator, O2 sensors, mass air flow, throttle position sensor. my explorer started to act like it was out of gas but would start up after a few minutes. i replaced the fuel pump(whole assembly), filter, and the relay. it will start and run for a few minutes but then dies. the fuel pump will not build pressure until it sets for a while. any ideas

Instead of just "shooting from the hip", do some real diagnostics. Rent a fuel pressure gauge from a large auto parts store. Connect it and watch what happens when the engine starts to die.

i used the gauge and thats how i knew that i was getting no fuel. the pump would prime and run. later it would quit and not prime. then for no known reason would prime again. all other stuff was changed as a tune up or necessary. i have also looked everywhere for a short.

It doesn't sound like a short, but rather a crappy connection. Maybe a bad ground.
IF it was a short, you should have blown a fuse.

Check any connectors you can find, see if your fuel pump relay is the same as another relay and swap them. Check your grounds, the big fat battery cables, and the little ones that go to the fenders, radiator support etc. See if there is one in the back by the pump.

well i went out of town and went to drive it yesterday. ran fine for about 30 minutes, then quit. today i checked to the ICM and it showed the sparkplug output input has no continuity like it should and the crankshaft position sensor has a resistance of 645 instead of 2,000-3,000 like it should. could either of these be the problem?

Please rewrite this so that an idiot can understand what you mean.

Its my understanding that the Crankshaft position sensor sends the PIP signal to the PCM so the PCM can determine when to fire the plugs and so it can change/adjust the ignition timing. Further, a flaky CKP could make it hard starting
