Ford Explorer Ford Explorer is a midsize SUV with body-on-frame construction. Available with V6 or V8 power, the Explorer competes against the TrailBlazer, Grand Cherokee, 4Runner, and Pathfinder. Explorer was completely redesigned in 2006 and we were pleased with the new steering, new suspension, and new brakes, all of which were vastly improved over the previous-generation.

Default 2004 Ford Explorer - Low Oil Pressure

Hi

When I insert keys into my Ford Explorer and turn it to On Position (Before cranking the engine) I get a "Low Oil Pressure" message in message center, after the engine is started this message goes away, is this Normal?

one car mechanic told me that this is normal, as the engine is not started and Oil pressure is not yet build up.

Thanks.

Normal.

On cars with just an idiot light, it would come on after a stall. Obviously the message center knows that the engine stalled and is blocking the message.

So "low oil pressure" message before engine start is normal, I wonder why they would not mention this in user manual.

Thankyou theoldwizard.

Yes it is normal, the engine has to be running to have oil pressure. The oil pump in the engine helps make the pressure so the engine has to physically be running to generate pressure.
