Ford Explorer Ford Explorer is a midsize SUV with body-on-frame construction. Available with V6 or V8 power, the Explorer competes against the TrailBlazer, Grand Cherokee, 4Runner, and Pathfinder. Explorer was completely redesigned in 2006 and we were pleased with the new steering, new suspension, and new brakes, all of which were vastly improved over the previous-generation.

To all who may have been following this post. . . this portion of my "vehicle maintenance projects" is on hold whilst I continue to look for an extra set of hands to assist in the follow-up "disconnection" of said hard-to-reach suspected wire harness section. I will post another follow-up once something is found. My apologies for the delay in a follow-up post, but I'm also looking for a job after my layoff--now 7 months old

Keep in touch. . .

Disconnect the fuel pump and then see if fuse still blows when you try to start

Thanks 'MikeH'--

I haven't actually tried that yet. I'm stuck at a standstill assuming we've identified the wire that might be causing the grounding/short. But now that you mention this, it brings back the memory that we could clearly hear the fuel pump "prime" once the suspect wire was identified and bypassed. But then there WOULD be a fuse blown as soon as we hooked the circuit back up.

Completely eliminating the fuel pump might is a great suggestion and be an additional troubleshooting step that would be easy enough to do prior to spending a huge amount of time fishing the wiring harness out that is nearly unreachable without lifting the engine.

Because of the inaccessibility of those wires, I need a 2nd set of experienced hands and those are hard to find lately.

Thanks again for the suggestion,
