Ford Explorer Ford Explorer is a midsize SUV with body-on-frame construction. Available with V6 or V8 power, the Explorer competes against the TrailBlazer, Grand Cherokee, 4Runner, and Pathfinder. Explorer was completely redesigned in 2006 and we were pleased with the new steering, new suspension, and new brakes, all of which were vastly improved over the previous-generation.

I'm in the same boat, did a search and found your thread. My overdrive light just started flashing and I also don't have the owner's manual. My Explorer is sluggish when accellerating after a stop, but fine after the initial. This started at the same time as the light. Any ideas, anyone???

The overdrive light flashing is either the detection of a shorted EPC (Electronic Pressure Controller) or a defective sensor. Bad shifts are a sign of the EPC, while good perfrormance would suggest a bad sensor. Also a quick check is the wiring conections being dirty/comtaninated. Cleaning and di-electric grease could fix your connections, that being the case.

Keep the Shiny side up!

It means the trans. has seen a fault and there will be a code set for the fault. get a code reader and post the code. It can reset its self every time you turn the veh. off but it will not fix the problem....

Hello, I am going through this right now with my 2004 Sport Trac. It is in the shop right now and they are replacing a shift solenoid. Just 700 miles out of warranty and it is costing me $603.00 from the Ford dealer. If you look on other fourms there is a lot of problems with this especially the explorer series. There is also a TSB out covering this problem so Ford knows they a selling deffective product. Between this and the terrible service from the local dealership I am thinking about trading my sport trac in.

You might actually find some useful information in the Explorer forums. This forum is for the two-seat Escort derived hatchback built in the 80's.

I just got done going through the same problems. I had my transmission rebuilt, but it did not solve the problem. No one could tell me a exactly what to fix. Anyway I was told that it could be the valve body of the transmission. We replaced the valve body and so far everything is working great.
