Ford ExplorerFord Explorer is a midsize SUV with body-on-frame construction. Available with V6 or V8 power, the Explorer competes against the TrailBlazer, Grand Cherokee, 4Runner, and Pathfinder. Explorer was completely redesigned in 2006 and we were pleased with the new steering, new suspension, and new brakes, all of which were vastly improved over the previous-generation.
I'm pretty sure I need to replace my fuel filter and I've been looking for it... I know it's attached to the fuel line coming from the gas tank, but I can't locate it. Is it under the frame somewhere or under the hood? Can someone tell me the best place to access this thing? It seems that my explorer has the common problem of not being able to idle and I'm going to replace that and clean the "IAC" gadget right in the front by the air filter. Anyway, thanks!
It looks like I have to get a tool to remove this IAC part... looked like a torx (T20)... but it won't fit into the hole. Did Ford do that to make a few more dollars on a tool you have to buy?
Thanks to all of you - CRISIS AVERTED. Sometimes it takes a bunch of dumb questions on my part and a lot of patience from knowledgable forum members, but I was able to figure it out with all of your help.
I took off the IAC, cleaned it up real good with carb cleaner, put it back on - and she started right back up like nothing was ever wrong. It took 10 minutes from start to finish.
Thanks Ford-Forums - one of the reasons I joined... and I hope my occasional input on a FEW things I know about helps others - and saves them from spending a bunch of cash at the mechanic shop on something they can do themselves!!!!
