A leak in the Camshaft Syncronizer 2000 XLS 6 cyl

I was leaking oil. So I took the Ex to the local Mechanic. He said that the O ring in the Cam Sync was leaking and that it would cost a little over 250 dollars to fix. I asked him if I could put it off for a little while cause I was broke and he told me I could put it off indefinately...just keep checking the oil and keep it filled. So I did this for a little over a month. Every week I would check the oil and it would be down about a quart, which I would then add. Lately it seems that the leak has stopped...my oil does not get low...

any insights on this? how difficult is it to replace the seal on the cam sync?

any comments would be very appreciated!

dust and diryt may have finally built up enough to seal it but I would keep checking your oil level.The seal is just an o-ring.The job isnt very hard but you must ger it installed in time or you can cause drivability problems.There is an alignment tool the sell at part stores or on a tool truck.
