Ford Explorer Ford Explorer is a midsize SUV with body-on-frame construction. Available with V6 or V8 power, the Explorer competes against the TrailBlazer, Grand Cherokee, 4Runner, and Pathfinder. Explorer was completely redesigned in 2006 and we were pleased with the new steering, new suspension, and new brakes, all of which were vastly improved over the previous-generation.

Default 2002 explorer with a couple of problems

I have a couple of issues with my explorer that i have tried to fix myself and haven't had a whole lot of luck in finding the problems. First problem is that i have no interior lights. I traced it to fuze 16 blowing under the hood, which i replaced and they still wouldn't work. After more troubleshooting I traced it to what i thought was the switch due to when the interior light dimmer was turned off, or rolled all the way down to when it clicks, i would have interior lights for about 2 minutes with my parking lights as well. After about two minutes, the fuze would blow and i would lose interior and parking lights. After disconnecting the dimmer switch, i have parking lights and no interior lights. I replaced the switch but still have the same issue when i connect the dimmer. I have checked all fuzes in the interior and don't have any that are blown and i have also replaced fuzes as well. Second problem i have is that my 4-wheel drive is not working at all. I can push the button and it will not engage, even when the back wheels start spinning, it fails to engage the front wheels. If anyone has any ideas as to how to fix either of these, i would greatly appreciate it. Thank you.

Kyle

Fuse 16 in the Battery Junction Box (15A, I think) helps to distribute power to a wide range of functions, including interior illumination and the 4-wheel drive control module. Your problems are related. Perhaps you should invest in a Haynes/Chilton repair manual and chech the wiring diagrams therein. Alternately, go to AutoZone.com | Get In The Zone! and register to view/print wiring diagrams and repair help for free. Here you can register your vehicle by year/model/VIN and search for a wide variety of of parts and accessories as well.
