Ford Explorer Ford Explorer is a midsize SUV with body-on-frame construction. Available with V6 or V8 power, the Explorer competes against the TrailBlazer, Grand Cherokee, 4Runner, and Pathfinder. Explorer was completely redesigned in 2006 and we were pleased with the new steering, new suspension, and new brakes, all of which were vastly improved over the previous-generation.

Unhappy 94 explorer please help

ok, I am getting desperate and running out of time and funds, 94 explorer limited,at lunch began running very rough (not like a plug) more when it reached op temp. by the time i got it home would barely run. got a code reader and it through MAF, replaced that, started it ran a little rough then smoothed right out. Parked it started the next morning and would barely start again, turns over fine, would not maintain an idol to get to op. temp. code reader and all scans again; now showed MAF, and throttle position sensor. Thinking I may have gotten a defective MAF, I exchanged it, and put the throttle position sensor as well as cleared the codes. Again started ran a tad rough, smoothed out, parked it next am same thing!! Shops said it sounded like a ecc/pcm, replaced that. So here is where I'm getting conflicting info. one shop says swap the chip in the computer, the other says no you can't on the 94 (so we did the swap and sent the core back) another shop says it has to be flashed, called the ford dealer he advised that 96 and newer are flashed, but 95 and older are more plug and drive. It did start ran rough then smoothed slightly but definately still not right. Please help, frustrated, going broke and running out of options.
