Ford Explorer Ford Explorer is a midsize SUV with body-on-frame construction. Available with V6 or V8 power, the Explorer competes against the TrailBlazer, Grand Cherokee, 4Runner, and Pathfinder. Explorer was completely redesigned in 2006 and we were pleased with the new steering, new suspension, and new brakes, all of which were vastly improved over the previous-generation.

Default new to explorers... lots of questions

ok i have a 1998 ford explorer eddie bauer edition. its got 128k miles on it. it has the 4.0 sohc engine in it. its not 4x4 or anything like that. im looking to get the most power out of it. would a 5.0 engine swap be the best bet or are there any aftermarket support for the 4.0 sohc? im wanting to do intake, intake manifold, cams, headers, exhaust a few other miner stuff to it. do they make all these for the 4.0 or am i going to have to get the 5.0 to get that kind of support? also for a 5.0 engine swap will the 4.0 sohc transmission bolt up to the 5.0 or am i going to have to get a transmission from the 5.0? also what would all be needed. a list of parts would help if someone could direct me to a site. i can only find v8 ford ranger swaps and cant find any information on a ford explorer v8 swap. thank you for your time and for the future help! loving this site already

if you're willing to do all that stuff to a 4.0, you might as well just pull it and drop a 5.0 in there. i'd try to find a wrecked exploder that has a 5.0 and get the engine and tranny out of it. and btw, an exploder is virtually the same as a ranger. hence why its called an RBV (ranger-based vehicle), so a lot of that info if not all will apply to yours.
