Ford Explorer Ford Explorer is a midsize SUV with body-on-frame construction. Available with V6 or V8 power, the Explorer competes against the TrailBlazer, Grand Cherokee, 4Runner, and Pathfinder. Explorer was completely redesigned in 2006 and we were pleased with the new steering, new suspension, and new brakes, all of which were vastly improved over the previous-generation.

Default Transmission question

Alright I am thinking about buying a 93 ford explorer 4x4 but the guy is saying the transmission wont go into drive which I am guessing he means overdrive since he also says it will go into 1,2,3 or whatever is on the tranny I am a GM person and this will be my first ford if I get it. I was wondering if anyone knows what will cause this he is saying linkage but wanting 2nd opinions and about how much it should cost to fix it. It's an automatic by the way

Believe him. You can manually shift 1,2 and 3 without getting engagement in D.

I doubt it is a linkage issue. My guess is you will need a complete rebuild.

Kinda hard to believe him cause that was my knowledge I knew you can manually shift it but he had no clue he was just saying it wouldn't drive I had to ask him to manually shift to other gears and he finally tried it and said it would. I was just trying to see if I could buy it and drive it to the mechanic so I didn't have to pay for a tow also.
