Ford Explorer Ford Explorer is a midsize SUV with body-on-frame construction. Available with V6 or V8 power, the Explorer competes against the TrailBlazer, Grand Cherokee, 4Runner, and Pathfinder. Explorer was completely redesigned in 2006 and we were pleased with the new steering, new suspension, and new brakes, all of which were vastly improved over the previous-generation.

Default Ford Explorer Seat Swap

Hey everyone,

I have a 1997 Ford Explorer XLT. The car has seen better days, so we're looking at upgrading to something newer.

Unfortunately, not any car will do. My mom (who the car is for) has a very sensitive back. The only seat that doesn't cause her intense back pain, is the current seat in her explorer.

I was wondering if anyone on this forum knew if it would be possible to take the seat out of her car and put it in a newer explorer or something else with a minimal amount of modification.

If it helps, the seat itself is leather with power everything including lumbar support.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!!

I am just wondering has she tried a newer model vehicle with the same equivalent seat?

good question. she sat in a 1999 and although the seat was similar, it still hurt her back.

we're going to check out some of the newer models and see if those work for her.

Why not just get the seat recovered ? Just tell the upholsterer to not over stuff the seat with new foam or possibly re-use the old foam.
