Ford ExplorerFord Explorer is a midsize SUV with body-on-frame construction. Available with V6 or V8 power, the Explorer competes against the TrailBlazer, Grand Cherokee, 4Runner, and Pathfinder. Explorer was completely redesigned in 2006 and we were pleased with the new steering, new suspension, and new brakes, all of which were vastly improved over the previous-generation.
Ok here is my problem. My 1996 4.0L OHV Exploder 4x4, while driving will all of a sudden die off the more you step on the pedal. if you don't step on the gas pedal it will idle, but as soon as you step on it the motor chokes off. Then it will pop and ping a little. If you step on the gas so that it dies it will restart again after a bit of cranking (15 sec) and you can drive again for 5 mins and it will do it again.
I am at a total loss here, I thought for a long time it was the fuel pump but I checked pressure while driving and idling and it is consistant 20-40 psi depending on driving conditions. I have replaced the fuel filter, ran cleaners, tuned up motor.
Its not throwing any codes, and I am out of idea's for problems.. Anyone got suggestions?
20 is too low. I do not know the specs for your engine, but 35 psi is typically the low end for EFI

Ok so I rechecked it and it was 35+ psi idle.. so scrap that idea? What are all those little sensors where vacuum lines + electrical go in? They are located on the passenger by the headlight under the hood.. maybe its one of these? Or maybe the emissions junk? Can I just take all the emissions stuff off?

Vacuum solenoids for 4X4. Leave 'em on.
I don't know why your not getting codes. Seems like you should.
How about a TPS?

Try pulling your relays and reinserting them. They may have a crappy connection.
OR when it doesn't start right away, check for fuel pressure and spark.
Without codes, You may have to go at it the old fashioned way.
Check your battery connections, and grounds, also the alternator connections.
