99 Explorer...Disable auto 4wd? Can a 99 Explorer that has 2wd/auto 4wd setting on the range selector be modified so that it operates only in 2wd mode and 4wd hi and lo with no auto switching in 2wd mode. Is this question clear?...Thanks

My goal...total control..LOL. I just prefer to not have the 4wd engage unless I want it too. If the roads are bad, I'll be in 4wd anyway.

4x4 cut out To give total control of 4x4, you need to cut the brown wire going to the transfer case front clutch and fit a switch to manualy switch it on and off.
