| Don't sweat the compression numbers if you gonna have the engine bored over. Still those are pretty even values, you'll have to post pictures of how the cylinder walls look when you get the motor apart.

| still haven't pulled the engine yet, but got the intake and exhaust manifolds off.
Had to cut the exhaust pipe part way down ,between the muffler and the manifold.
just a few bolts to remove from the tranny to the block and the engine mounts and I can take her out and put it on the engine stand.
been doing a lot of reading and research and I'm getting a pretty good idea what I want from this motor.
working shift work and I don't have as much time or motivation as I'd like when I do night shift' and I also work a second job, but I should get at er this weekend.
Peace and Out, for now

| got some pics and Q's still don't have a whole lot more done but I have made some progress .
It looks like I have a wear spot on one of the push rods.
that's the only one like that.
Also when I took the rocker cover off I saw what looked like anti-freeze, when I came back with the camera it had frozen, which tells me it's mostly water, my question is , 'how would 'water' get up in one of my rockers?'
and why only one?
it's been frickin cold and I've been working lots but the lack of 'garage' time just gives me more 'research and thinking time.
wife's callin me
I'll check back later....

| I wouldn't sweat the coolant issue. You may also have had a large amount of condensation in the engine. Make sure that when you have the block bored over that you have it Magnafluxed. Also you should have the head Maganfluxed.

| haven't had a chance to post lately but I did get a chance to do a little more disassembly.
The cylinder walls look pretty good, the piston tops look a little black, the valves and combustion chambers are discolored, but I think that every thing is rebuildable for sure. I labeled each push rod , rocker and bolt and stored them safely.
The starter and altenator I can get rebuilt locally.
I'll attach some pics and I hope to pull the block out next time I go out to the garage.
Wed. is supoosed to be warm, we've had severe cold temps lately and my garage is not heated, I did however break down and bought a propane heater. |

| Thanks bro;
What do you make of the color of those valves?
the intake ones are brownish and every other part of the chambers are black.
poor combustion?
bad timing?
I'm actually happy with the way the cylinders look. but the tops of the pistons are pretty black too.
You can't really tell from the pics but the pistons are dished , I was planing to go with the flat top pistons anyway, but not sure what type yet I have to see what I can get and some prices.
Later,

| Thats all fairly normal. The exhaust valves are actually the valves that are brown. Have you decided on internal engine parts yet?

| still deciding on exact parts,I'm going to talk to this shop in the nearest city 109km away.
It's a real milestone day.
first day I had off and had time and the temp wasn't -30, it was warm enough to run my heater, my son was off school and we finally have the engine out of the truck and on the stand.
right now my biggest concern is gettin this to the machine shop.
for sure I know I want the block decked, and the cylinders bored 0.020 min, 0.030 max
Later
