Ford F - SeriesThe Ford F-Series lineup offers a plethora of models for every occasion or occupation, starting below $20,000 and climbing beyond double that. The F-Series line offers something on the order of 75 permutations, more than some car companies' entire lineups. All are capable of work or play, even those models with luxurious interiors, and all have four doors.
Get ready for the 351 boss build this summer, 4v closed chamber heads, 2.25/1.75 valves, .750 lift, 12.5:1 piistons, wieand tunnel ram, nitrous, I think its gonna roar!
He wants to replace the cam for sure ,and the gear set, I told him I don't want a real aggressive cam and he said there's nothing wrong with a stock cam.
I have to go up and have a talk with him again anyways, he said I should bring my old valves so he can grind them, I thought I could clean them all up my self with a wire wheel.
Now I'm thinkin take the lifters ,push rods rockers springs, everything and tell him to give me the engine back with everything put back together ready to go.
or...
I get a cam kit which comes with all the moving parts and put it all in brand new.....
Change the gear set for sure. He's right about nothing being wrong with the stock cam, but I'd still opt for just a little bit more. Offenhauser used to brag a 100hp increase with a cam/intake/header change on the 300". That would really open up the power.
Take the whole head to him and see about having him test the springs open pressure and installed heights. Check for coil bing at the gross valve lift that you want to achieve. Have him mill the head down and CC the chamber to bring you to ~10:1 too. You can wire wheel and lap the valves, but trust me its so much nicer to have a 3 angle valve job done.
Don't reuse your lifters, its asking for trouble. Buying a kit from Comp or Crane would be a great choice.
Oh and don't rush these things, take your time and pick your parts wisely.

here's what he said,"he can do anything I want for '$$$$ ' it's my money"
and "how much time do I have?"
2months to get me a cam.
He suggested to go ahead with what I originally asked for ,pistons, bearings, timing set and get the bottom soild and tight so she can handle more upgrades after the 5000km break in period. He suggested keeping my eyes open for a better head one with adjustable rockers....
I can do the port work on my own and put my next money into the carb and distributor system.
so I'll put it together and drive it while the cam is on order and break it in a bit and save up some money for a bit......
I think.........
I keep changing my mind......
any way I have to pick up my starter and altenator now . Had them being rebuilt,
Rad will be done Fri..... might upgrade to a bigger rad, gotta do the rear bearings soon and the brakes.

no I didn't call , I'm releying on the guy at the engine rebuilders to do the calling around he said he would source out the parts I need, for now I'll get this thing built with a good quality bottom end and try the stock cam to see how it is , I'll put back in and see how she drives and plan my next up grades while I drive it.
I'm for sure getting a whole new distributor, coil and modual. I have the 'duraspark' in it right now, the local guy can get me a new stock distributor.
meanwhile I got my starter rebuilt and altenator rebuilt. pics below...
the carb....I'm still deciding what to do..
My rad is done I just have to go pick it up at the rad shop.....
starting to degrease, derust and clean up the other extremities, gettin em ready for paint, did a sample paint job on my flywheel inspection plate to see how it would look.... pic below......
oilpan had an inch of crud on it , spent a while cleaning it and i'm taking the paint off of it with a grinder , long job and I'm not done but got a couple pics of it earlier in the clean up process and one of where I left off.
gotta do brakes next and rear axle bearings...
and the guy at the engine shop says to get a proper rear end and tranny before making any more performance upgrades.
he said start with the spark system next and the carb..
