| they last for a long time, but I have seen the ones with very high mileage fail, personally I go way overboard on my toys.

| still working on 'clean up'.
painted the oil pan finally , I'll get pics later , got the timing cover cleaned, will paint it today.
going to install the new oil pump that came with the engine kit.
bought a new distributor and coil. the guy can't get me anything better than stock, that seems to be the story with everything, for now I'll be happy to see this in the truck and running as I source out a stronger coil dist. etc,
I also need to see what I can get for carb, intake, exhaust etc
all stuff I can do with the engine in the vehicle.
gotta go...

| fuel pump woes Hi and good morning all,
I've had my I6 300 back from the machine shop for a week or so and I've been working at cleaning and painting whatever pieces I'm going to reuse.
I've been sort of test fitting/mocking up everything as I go.
I go to put the fuel pump on(it's run off the cam by a lever) and it won't go on. It seems to me like the cam lobe is too big, ?? is this even possible? I'm not the type to force things if the don't go easy .
I can put the fuel pump in place and even get the bolts in but I have a good 1/4" gap between the pump body and the engine block.
Is this normal? or is there a chance this machine shop put in the wrong cam?
can anyone add any insight before I call this guy?
Please.
Going out the the garage to take another look.....
Thanks
Dave |

| Have you tried turning the motor over a little bit and putting the fuel pump in? You may be on the raised part of the lobe and fighting the cam to put the pump in.

| that's exactly what it is jonmark1985
I just wasn't sure , I thought I might break something or that the lobe would come around and break the lever, I did call the machine shop and he said same as you and that it can be a real son of a beep to get those on.....
back out to the garage
thanks

| well thank gawd that crisis is over.....
fuel pump fits fine I just wasn't pushing the lever up hard enough.... Oh well
anyway got the test fits all taken care of, on with the reassembly.
I'm cleaning and painting everything as I go, I'll be back to workin steady from here on but with weekends off. so this weekend we'll get a little more done.
lots of cleaning , this thing was seriously grimey, rocker cover is the last thing I need to clean up I'm thinkin paint it blue.
gotta put the rockers on close up the push rod cover, I will paint that either blue or silver.
heres a couple pics to look at...

| That engine is gonna look great!
See about having your exhaust manifold sandblasted. Then paint it with "cast colored" high temperature paint. It will look great when you do that. You may consider doing the same thing for the intake manifold.
Also you get a razor and clean up that RTV around the oil pan gasket. Try not to pull any out, but just run the razor along the edge and get rid of the stuff sticking out.
