Ford F - Series The Ford F-Series lineup offers a plethora of models for every occasion or occupation, starting below $20,000 and climbing beyond double that. The F-Series line offers something on the order of 75 permutations, more than some car companies' entire lineups. All are capable of work or play, even those models with luxurious interiors, and all have four doors.

Question 1999 7.3L Manual Tranny Problems

Ford replaced the slave cylinder when the clutch wasn't disengaging. Since then I can't shift from 1st to 2nd without grinding. If I am stopped, and first shift into 1st and then into 2nd everything is fine (which is not a problem because I usually start in 2 anyway). I can't go from nuetral to 2nd with going into 1st first without grinding. The tranny also grinds when shifting from 2nd to 3rd when the engine in cold. Lastly, I can bypass 2nd and go from 1st to 3rd without a problem. 97,500 miles, original clutch which is still good.

Anyone run into this and do I need to get the tranny serviced?

And if I do need to get it serviced, take it to Ford or go to a transmission specialist?

Try changing your fluid first. Also if the transmission has external shift linkage check that none are bent to the point that the synchonizers will fully engage.
