Default 2000 F350 diesel 7.3 powerstroke

Iam having a problem with my truck. It was running fine then it started to power out.
It got worse and finally had no power to get home. It would idle rough but keep running. later it was idling very good and I took it down the road . In about a mile that same thing started again???? I changed out the fuel fitler on the engine. The truck starts good and thats about all it wants to do.

Any suggestions of what the problem can be? Fuel pump ( there is one on the frame, is there one in the tank as well?

Check the alternator and batteries i have a 2000 E-350 super duty that last month started really rough and drove rough. i cahnged one battery thinking there was only one ( this is a work van and my first diesel) it was fine for about an hour it would run fine for about 2 miles so i got another battery because this new one drained so i called a local diesel shop and theres actully 2 batteries one is under the hood where it normally is but theres another one farther back by by the block heater core im not to shure about the f series tho.. anyways about 2 weeks later same problem it needed an alternator it could be a bad second battery or alterantor problem but i dont know about the E and F series diffrences. depending on the mileage you could need a tune up. try this fist go get a can of seafoam the fuel could be starting to gel up wich could be it to and dump it in the tank...good luck!

did you change the oil. When the 7.3l does not have the right oil additive (cf-4 or cg-4 this is a anti-foaming additive) it produces bubbles and starts to run like crap, but if you let it sit tne try it its okay for about a mile or two. Also if the oil is getting old the additives brake down and the same thing happens.
When you changed the fuel filter was the heater element under the filter okay???

Oil??? well it was changed a month prior. I thought oil was a lubicant for the engine. Seems yo be getting not enough fuel. Fuel was nice and warm when I changed the filter

yes, but the hewi injectors are ran by oil presure (around 500psi to 4000psi) when there is are bubbles in the oil it will loose power and miss it will feel like fuel problem because the injectors are not putting fuel into the cylinder.
Not saying it is not fuel pump but try the oil first cheap!!!!!But make sure it has the additives for hewi injectors. I have done lots with this problem and the customer does not believe it. It will take a few miles for it to clear.
Also have had the crankshaft sensor do this, but most of the time it will finaly shut itself down.

Thank you I will change the oil again in the spring. Had to leave the truck at the farm in the middle of nowhere LOL. how many fuel filters are there on the system? Is the fuel pump in the tank or on the frame?

one fuel filter and look at the block in the v (between the two heads)right behind the fuel filter make sure there is not a mechanical pump if not its in the tank.

I seen a device on the frame coming from the fuel tank( cant remember the name on it) but it said fuel under pressure? I am hoping this is the pump and not one in the tank.

We had the same problem on our 2000 F350 PowerStroke work truck and after replaceing filters ect, we found the problem lied in the fuel tank. It had rust and gunk inside that would clog the lines. Im not saying thats exactly whats wrong with yours, but it might be worth looking into.
