| 1981 F100 300 six T170FS transmission-OOPS! I went to do a simple thing today. I wanted to check the oil in my 4 spd. transmission, or 3 spd. with overdrive. I crawled under the drivers side of my truck with my wrench and took the plug out of the fill hole... except it wasn't the fill hole. It was a bolt about two inches long with a special tip on the end. I knew when I saw it that this wasn't right, so I screwed it back in and tightened it. I slid to the other side and found the fill plug and filled it. Then, No reverse and hard to move shifter. I crawled back under and pulled bolt out. I could see a round piece through the hole that looked like the bolt should go through but it was misaligned. I inserted a small screwdriver in and slid it over. Woops! Too Far! Now I don't see it anymore. I pulled the shifter out and part of the floor panel, then pulled the top off the transmission. I still don't see the piece I moved. Is there any help before I remove the transmission and disassemble it. |

| The ring is probably steel and could respond to a magnet, but positioning it correctly, even if you find it could be a problem.
Good luck.
