Ford F - Series The Ford F-Series lineup offers a plethora of models for every occasion or occupation, starting below $20,000 and climbing beyond double that. The F-Series line offers something on the order of 75 permutations, more than some car companies' entire lineups. All are capable of work or play, even those models with luxurious interiors, and all have four doors.

Default 1999 F250 Turbo Diesel Transmission question

I just purchased this truck I have had other F250s and had to replace 1 tranny when it let go, This truck I have now only has 92000 miles and I just noticed today that whne I get to around 30mph the overdrive "off" light on the gear handle keeps blinking. The truck runs terrific no problems with the tranny shifting poorly or making noises or leaks, just the "off" light blinks constantly. Any Ideas what this means?? a sensor??or another $2000 Tranny?

probably not a tranny, but it needs to be looked at... there is a fault code stored in the ECM for the transmission....

Check this Ford Tech's comments on transmission woes. It doesn't effect a 99 model, but, it's interesting reading. As well as the next few replys on the forum.

I have a 99 F-350 same problem. My scan code was 500, Vehicle Speed Sensor. My local Napa had the sensor for $30.00. I bought a Ford CD on EBay, but it's not clear on how to change it.

it's in the TOP of the output case.... either the tailshaft or transfer case depending on 2wd or 4wd

and it screws in, as I recall...
