| F250 Running real rough? Ive got a 2000 F250 5.4L and its running real rough, its like a sputter or a choppy feeling. Its completely random, all the injectors are working and I've put plenty of injector cleaner in, its got new spark plugs, all the coils work and I'm out of ideas. When I press the gas its slow to accelerate but the rpm's usually go up to around 3000. It sounds real bad and feels the same. Any ideas? thanks

| I'm not up to speed on what came with what in what year in the newer vehicles. Some have distributors and some have a system that fires the plugs off a wheel on the crankshaft. Anyway, since you have a distibutor, (which is what I was thinking), you may have a bad rotor or cap. Look at those parts pretty carefully and I'm thinking center contact on the cap. I really don't have a good feel for what's wrong here, but these are a couple of possibilities and they are quick and free to check, and it would be nice to find the easy fix first, if possible. The other thing I'm thinking is timing, but I need to think about that a little bit. |

| I can't see where this issue got resolved. I have the exact same problem with my 2000 F250 4x4 with a 5.4L engine. While the problems are all random, they are far too frequent. Most of the time it's simply a herky-jerky feeling while driving at road speeds, very similar to running out of gas. However, the problem that Graham567 described has occurred as well. In either case, turning the truck off and back on (temporarily) fixes the problem. I've been chasing engine problems with no luck. I've replaced fuel filter, spark plugs, plug wires, MAF sensor, and added fuel injector cleaner. Now I'm thinking it is a transmission issue. If you put 2500 rpm into a torque converter at no load and all you get is a slow creep, the problem MUST be in the transmission, right? |
