Ford F - Series The Ford F-Series lineup offers a plethora of models for every occasion or occupation, starting below $20,000 and climbing beyond double that. The F-Series line offers something on the order of 75 permutations, more than some car companies' entire lineups. All are capable of work or play, even those models with luxurious interiors, and all have four doors.

Question Engine dies when switched to front gas tank

I have a 1993 Lightning (all stock) when I switch to the front the engine dies. The front tank gauge functions the fuses and relays check out OK.Is the fuel pump bad or could there be a clog in the line?Is there a way to check the pump before I drop the tank.

Thanks for your help !

Default Put fuel in it

Your just out of gas.

No first check to see if you have a fuel filter before the valve for the tanks. If you do change it. second you could take the line off from the front tank to the valve and see if you can get fuel at least up to there.

I say this because you could have a couple different problems.
1. Clogged fuel filter,
2. no power to your tank valve,
3. power but a bad ground,
But those last two wodent explain the lack of fuel after a switch.

Hmmm, Check filters first, In tank fuel pump? or external pump?

I would start there, filters and wiring!

When I worked on (excuse my French) Toyota's, first step to diagnose fuel related problems was to put fuel pressure gauge on the vehicle. I'm a new Ford owner, so tracking down and repairing Fords may be different. I had an extra 2 cents burning a hole in my coveralls.
