Unhappy 2000 f150 shift leaver/hazard lights

I just purchased this truck and found I can't take the shift lever out of park unless I disconect the battery cable, I then drop it in nuetral and reconnect the battery and it will crank and run. (yes i'm mashing on the brakes) but as soon as I put it back into park it won't come out until I repeat the procedure. Also the Hazzard lights and turn signals don't work and I think all of the above problems are related. (yes I've checked all the fuses). The rear bed is falling apart due to fertilizer. Anybody have any thoughts? thanks

maybe a missing fuse?Do you have brake lights? You can turn the key about a half click forward( before the dash lamps come on) and it should come out of park.

look near the top of the brake pedal, there should be a little black box clipped on with 2 green wires coming out of it near the top/midway up the pedal, replace it sometimes they go out or the wires come loose I picked one up at napa for 5.00$ just cut the wires off the old one near the top and splice in the new ones with the old. that will solve the brake light problem but check any wires, bulbs and sockets for damage and or wear.
