Ford F - SeriesThe Ford F-Series lineup offers a plethora of models for every occasion or occupation, starting below $20,000 and climbing beyond double that. The F-Series line offers something on the order of 75 permutations, more than some car companies' entire lineups. All are capable of work or play, even those models with luxurious interiors, and all have four doors.
I'm working on replacing the lower and upper ball joints on my dad's '93 F-150 4X4 and I'm having trouble. Hub is off and I have no idea how to get at the lower ball joint from here. It seems to me that the axle shaft has to come out in order to get the knuckle off to press the bj's out...can somebody verify this?
If this is the procedure, how does the axle shaft come out?
I have a chilton book for f-150's up to 1990 (closest year my library had), and it's telling me to take the spindle off, which I tried, and the darn thing wont budge...bolts are out too. I don't see any reason for taking the spindle off in the first place.
So, you can see I'm having a bit of trouble and I could sure use some advice if anybody has any.
I Have a '90 bronco and when I did mine, the axle had to come out. I rented a hammer puller and the adapter to hook it up to the spindle from autozone. They have a free loaner program, where you leave a deposit, and get it back when you return the tool. I also borrowed a ball joint press.
