Another thought/question. . .
Since it's a 4x4, are the hubs manual/automatic? Might be a bad hub or electronical/accidental engagement thereof; or associated bearing as alluded to by 'Taz4' and 'Flames'. Another guess could be the electronics behind it (4-wheel engagement switch) if it's "auto"--that is push a button from inside for the "convenience". Might be faulty???
It sounds like a classic front wheel engagement when you're in 4-wheel drive on hard pavement. So check there to see if one wheel/side might be engaging and the other not. Easy enough if manual (MUCH easier to troubleshoot)--just look at them.
If still going on this hunch, you'd have to have it placed on jack stands with all four wheels up in air, safe enough to test engaging/dis-engaging 4-wheel-drive (don't expect them all to turn

).
'Not sure if a code reader would catch anything on this unless it IS something electrical/switch related?
One final thing. . . how'd the OLD tires look???? If you know, studying the wear patttern might be more along the laundry list of items that 'Taz4' gave you with front-end parts (tie rods, ball joints, etc). If you bought them with the new tires on, then they may have been covering up what they already knew would be expensive work.
Just a lot of conjuecture on my part (and others). We're making lots of guesses here, but need your follow-up feedback to see how many cylinders we're hitting on. . . so to speak.
Good luck
