Default 2000 F150 won't start

Hi, I am new and I only do minor repairs to my vehicles. But I just replaced my alternator in my 2000 F150 V8 4.6L. Right after I started it up with no problems, drove around the block and parked it. Then about 2 hours later, I tried to start it and it would not start. The starter tried to crank the engine, but it would not fire. It is a manual so I tried to push start it with no luck. It didn't even try to engage when I tried that. It seems like it isn't getting any fuel. Any help would be very much appreciated.

do you hear the fuel pump prime when you turn the key to ON?

with a fuel pressure guage you can check for pressure at the fuel rail.

No, I wasn't listening for it. I don't know that I would know what it sounded like anyway ( my hearing is less then perfect). I don't see how the fuel pump is related to the alternator being changed. Is there a reason why the fuel pump would not be working after replacing an alternator?

I was wondering if there was some kind of fuel pump shutoff mechinism that somehow engaged while I was replacing the alternator. I had a friend tell me that there is a fuel pump reset button somewhere.

Fuel pump check: Have someone switch the key to 'on', not start, while your ear is near the fuel tank filler....with the cap off.
If the fuel pump is working you will hear a whirring sound for about 2-3 seconds then go silent. If you don't hear it the pump may be shot, but.....

Did you happen to hit a big bump during your last drive? If so the fuel pump inertia switch may have been tripped. Check it anyway. It's located in the passenger side foot well behind the kick panel. You might be able to just reach your hand over the top of the kick panel to feel for the button on the inertia switch. Push down on it.

If it is indeed the fuel pump...You might be able to get it to work one more time. Have someone turn the switch to on...at the same time hit the bottom of the fuel tank with a 2x4 or the likes. Hit it flat.
If the pump springs back to life...start it and get it to your favorite repair shop. Do Not turn the engine off...it may never work again.
