 2002 Lightning Broken axle
My son was making a left hand turn from a stop sign and the left axle broke sending him into a skid to the right and hitting curb. The tire is scuffed showing that it was locked into place, and not spinning. The only thing holding the tire and rim in place was the emergency brake cable. the tire was jammed into the rear leaf spring and inner fender. The rim was not bent, or the tire hurt in any way. (still inflated). The axle has a clear break not twisted, and looking at the break it has a smooth area 1/4 inch thick that looks like it has been wearing for some time. After the insurance company finaly listened the looked at the other side and found it to be cracked also.
They also found a hole going thru the center of the axle shaft, possably a defect?
Has anyone heard of defective axles on these?
Is the powerside of the axle the right side?
Will try and put pics on tonight, if i can figure it out. lol |
