Ford F - Series The Ford F-Series lineup offers a plethora of models for every occasion or occupation, starting below $20,000 and climbing beyond double that. The F-Series line offers something on the order of 75 permutations, more than some car companies' entire lineups. All are capable of work or play, even those models with luxurious interiors, and all have four doors.

Default Low RPM high gear low acceleration

2005 F - 150 2WD 4.5 V8 motor with 105K. Oil changed regularly and at the last change I was told that the transmission fluid looks like it was starting to break down and that I should probably get it changed on the next fluid change. I get my fluids changed a small mom and pop style facuilty because I like the service that comes with shopping there but I have my concerns too.

That being said I am having an issue that appears to only be occurring in 4th gear of this automatic transmission. When I am in that gear maintaining speed and attempt to accelerate with slight pressure a shimmy occurs. It feels like it is attempting to down shift but it does not. RPM's stay where they were and it does not appear to lose speed or momentum. A friend of mine that knows a bit more about vehicles road with me and said it almost felt like the problem my be the torque converter.

I have a two part question: One, does any have any ideas on this problem? And I am leaving tomorrow on a trip that is about 1700 miles round trip pull a light trailer. Since this only happens in 4th and when pulling a trailer I turn off Over Drive (which i presume leaves the truck in 3rd gear) would going on this trip be a problem?

I am planning on get the oil and transmission fluid change (not flushed), would this cause the issue to get worst? Could it resolve the issue?
