Default Warning chime wont shut-up

I’ve got a 02’ F350 crew cab w/7.3 power stroke. The chime that you get when the door is open, and you still have the key in the ignition, is now doing it anytime the door is open. Does anyone have any ideas if this might be a defective key switch, light switch, door switch or maybe something else.

Oh on a related subject the courtesy light in the back interior now stays on when the truck is running…….strange.

So when door is closed, all is ok?
sounds like a broken/failing/mis-aligned key-switch indicator. Its a 1/8 circle plastic on the outside of the key-switch under column shroud.
They used to be baby blue

Check the dimmer roller switch on head light switch. Is it rolled up all the way?

Thanks for responding.

Yes when the door is clused the chime stops. I read in an earlier post that it might have something to do with a gumed-up door switch. I shot it out with some contact cleaner......but no change.
The "key switch indicator" your talking about; can I do anything with it or is it something I need to replace? I'm still not real sure where it is located from your discription, but as soon as the sun comes up I'm going to go out and start looking at it.

As for the interior light, I have two that come on when the door is open. One over the front seat and one over the rear. The front light does what it is supposed to do. It's just the rear light that won't shut off. I'm thinking that it might be a groung-seaking circuit that's grounded out somewhere. Does this sound possible?

Your door triggers work. door ajar indicators, indicate that.
Trouble is in your key Sense switch. In my taurus manual it;s a black and pink wire. It gets grounded when key is in switch.
I can't find any pictures. My f250 service manual doesn't show it.
Ground seeking- isn't abad though. I don't have the wiring manual to prove it.

Found the problem with the rear courtesy light yesterday. There was one of the light bezel screws screwed into the wire loom on the other side of the head liner panel. To my knowledge it was done at the factory, I don’t believe the bezel has ever been apart. Ooopps.

I agree that the key sense in the steering column sounds like the most probable scenario. I need to round up a good wiring diagram then I’ll go after it.

Thanks again.
