Exclamation 88 F250 problems...help please

hi,

I have a 1988 F250 and I went out to start it the other day and it started right up. I went out about a week later and it wouldnt start. I am getting good spark, and fuel. Just changed the spark plugs, and changed the fuel and air filters, but it still will not fire. There seems to be fuel getting to the fuel filter and then that's where it stops. it does not seem to be getting any farther. I've been told it is the fuel regulator could this be true? Also I have been told that there is somewhere in the injectors that is not operating properly. i reset the pump inertia switch and that did nothing. I hear the rear fuel pump inside the tank kick on, but being a 1988 there is another pump on the engine, could that one be faulty? my plugs are gapped correctly so i know that isnt the trouble. Is there any way to check the ignition components? or could my distibutor be mislocated and not allowing the engine to fire at the right time?

I had a 88 ford ranger that had the same problem and it was the relay on passenger side of the motor on the fender. This relay operates a secondary pump between the tank and the motor. Do not know if the 250 is the same or not but it is worth looking at

Ok so here's the scoop, i took another relay off of another truck just like mine and it didnt do the trick so that told me that it wasnt bad. i also tested it and traced all wires and it was not bad. i went ahead and replaced it anywho. what the deal is, is that i spray starting fluid into the throttle body intake and then try to start it and it fires right up and runs on starting fluid then a couple seconds after its all evaporated it dies. I'm thinking that my fuel pumps are bad...but i dont know which ones there is 3 i believe...one for each tank and then one on the engine. the running on starting fluid is leading me to think that the fuel delivery is not getting to where its supposed to. I have to get a fuel pressurer tester and go from there. If anyone has any suggestions please feel free to give them. I will keep you posted.

ok so still a no start situation. I cannot get the truck to run, I dont know where to start now. I still need some help if anyone knows I would appreciate it. Also there is a whole bunch of hoses that run to some emission like pipes that come off the head pipe. Can I get rid of all that or do I need it on there? Right now that is not hooked up to the truck can I go ahead and take it out to give me some more space in the engine compartment to work on the fuel rail and things in the back? There is hoses that move out to another pipe and that pipe is not connected to the hose like it should be. so it is just dumping exhaust into the engine compartment. I want to pull all that out and plug the hole on the tube...but like I said I do not know if I can. Please help.

I removed the air pump and hoses and plugged up the attaching pipes(some you can remove alltogether) on my '88 f250 351w. It seems to run much better now without the extra drag of an air pump. You just need to get a shorter serp belt for the accesories. I can't recall off hand how long of belt you'll need, just match up a shorter one at the parts store. Plus I hollowed out the cat conv and installed a glasspack muffler and gained 3-5 mpg. As for the fuel issue, you might check the switchover valve for the 2 tanks

ok so i am just now getting back on i am sorry...internet quit for a while. My truck now runs and i have plugged every hole in the emissions system AIR tube and that and removed all other things but the smaller belt to remove the air pump. the truck fires right up and then idles fine but then you go to drive it and it will not run more then 25 miles per hour and wants to die and then will die on you but start right back up and then wont run unless you have your foot in the throttle. I have one question with all that being said...WIth having all those AIR tube holes plugged up, and still running the AIR pump be robbing my air intake into the motor or something like that? to cause it to not run when i accelerate and when it gets warm? just curious if you know anything please help....
