Ford F - Series The Ford F-Series lineup offers a plethora of models for every occasion or occupation, starting below $20,000 and climbing beyond double that. The F-Series line offers something on the order of 75 permutations, more than some car companies' entire lineups. Default noisy motor

I have a 5.8ltr (351cuin) v8 which is the same motor used in a series of australian ford , known as the Cleveland motor. It has developed an intermittant noisy squeal.it usually starts after the motor has been running for a while but can start after it has been running a while then stopped and re-started. It can start ,be noisy for a while then stop The noise goes away when the throttle is operated it is as if it was related to the vacuum being pulled which drops off when the carby butterfly opens. I have checked all the hose connections for leaks, changed the fan belt, water pump, tightened up the belt, used belt dressing, ,...cant locate it..when it is there , its no good trying to pin point it by listening under the bonnet...too loud and all invasive....also it has started running on when the ignition is switched off. this motor was reconditioned about a 2 years ago so I doubt it is coked up .....anybody got any ideas what it might be?

it might be a quick fix... I heard of guys having the same problem and all it is was the altinator. try disconecting the altinator belt and listening for it. but do keep your lights off.

Hey Zander,
hw ya going .?I have had a lot of cleveland and have all been excellent powerfull runners.
yes ,noises like this can be a bitch at times.i lmow it sounds goofy but get the longest screwdriver you got.start your motor and go around and place the tip on different parts of the motor.keep the handle pressed firm against your ear.It canreally help pinpoint a noise.just be carefull leaning over things and where you place ya hands for support and watch out if you have longer hair.it sounds like you got a few areas tried. It could be the bearing in the altenator or power steer or air con units.they will definatly squeal.
good luck. mercury.
