Ford F - SeriesThe Ford F-Series lineup offers a plethora of models for every occasion or occupation, starting below $20,000 and climbing beyond double that. The F-Series line offers something on the order of 75 permutations, more than some car companies' entire lineups. All are capable of work or play, even those models with luxurious interiors, and all have four doors.
I have about 135,000 miles on my 5.4L in my 2000 f150 and it still runs like it is new. The 5.4L is hands down better than the 4.6L. If you want a truck that throws you back in your seat when you step on the gas the 5.4L is the one you want. The 4.6L is a dog of a motor. If you interested in towing anything the 5.4L is still the better choice. As far as durability, you can kill any motor if you dont take care of it. If taken care of properly the 5.4L will last quite a while.
i personally dont own either but my brother does own a 2001 4.6 f150 and his buddy owns a 5.4 f150 same year, and ill tell you the 4.6 walks on the 5.4. but ill also have you know that my brothers 4.6 has a cold air intake and semi performance true dual exhaust, with a throttle body spacer and the computer chip that removes the governd speed on it, and also allows it to give it more revs i think about 600 rpms more, nothing big but the basic upgrades, and the 5.4 has a throttle body spacer and single exhaust, with a smaller cold air intake. but the 4.6 still will take the 5.4, the computer chip thing oviously did alot for the 4.6 i dont know exactly how those computer things work but it deff did make a difference between the two trucks. all my brother does is drive it back to work everyday and load it down with wood and it pulls fine. oviosly not a work beast but gets the job done.
pull up the numbers and compare the two. Two different motors, two different power bands do a little research on Google and make a good decision for your application
