Ford Fairlane Ford Fairlane was produced from 1955 through 1969. The original body design was the full sized Ford body which started out as a family vehicle and slowly evolved into many different available models and body styles. The exterior paint and trim options, seemed endless with elaborate cloth woven seat covers and a rainbow of paint combinations.

Default 66 FF: C-6 auto trans- no first gear

I have no first gear when shifted all the way down to D1. It feels like it is in park and does not move.

66 FF 500 XL 390 with C-6 auto trans with D1, D2 option. It was manually shifting o.k. 2 days ago but today tried to take off in D1 and it sat there with RPMs surging up. Put it in drive and it took off like a bat out of hell. Also, while slowing down to a red light, I pulled it down to D2 (which was o.k.), then D1 and the back tires locked up like I just slammed on the brakes.

Is it possible to have a separate busted linkage on D1 but at the same time have first gear when I put it in drive??? If so, is it o.k. to drive it in auto drive until I scrap up enough funds to put it in the trans shop???? Why is it completely locked up in D1 if I can drive it in auto drive????

Trying to learn the car more by maually shifting some, the guys are hounding me about taking it to the track. They all have souped up Camaro's.

Again, great site, thanks for having me!!

Have you checked the vaccum solenoid/accumulator (and line) on the right rear side of the tranny?
