Ford Fairlane Ford Fairlane was produced from 1955 through 1969. The original body design was the full sized Ford body which started out as a family vehicle and slowly evolved into many different available models and body styles. The exterior paint and trim options, seemed endless with elaborate cloth woven seat covers and a rainbow of paint combinations.

Default FE 390 timing help!

Ok My 390 FE in my 67 ford 500 custom is popping on me and Im pretty sure its an advance problem because it only does it under load. What are the timings specs Ive heard anything from 6-12 before top dead center and thats a little vauge for my taste! Id also like to check the points what should they be set at and finally what should I run for plugs and what gap. Im new to these FE Big Blocks! Thanks In advance!

specs for 390; plugs Bf-42 gap 32/1000, distributor points .17, 6 degrees before TDC. has the motor been disturbed? if not maybe the advance mechanisms are messed up.

Thanks Bjlordemann, I bought the car from my Brother and the motor has a recent rebuild. The wife and I checked the timing and the engine builder must of put a yellow dot on the proper timing so when we lined that up with the timing light everything started running much smoother. The car idles better, the lower end has come alive so I think we got the timing perfect. Thanks for all the advice. I appreciate it
