Ford Fairlane Ford Fairlane was produced from 1955 through 1969. The original body design was the full sized Ford body which started out as a family vehicle and slowly evolved into many different available models and body styles. The exterior paint and trim options, seemed endless with elaborate cloth woven seat covers and a rainbow of paint combinations.

Default Polarizing Voltage Regulator

i took a wire and touched the bottom and top connectors of the voltage regulator, and didnt see none of the points move.
(the middle connecter is field)

i did this with the battery connected, and the car off.

some reason the gen light came on so i thought maybe i needed to polarize it. there was a chance i disconnected the battery to cause this, i do not remember...

Have the Generator checked out, the brushes might be wore down. They are easy to replace.

It has been a long long LONG time since I polarized anything. I may not remember clearly.....But I seem to remember that your 'spose to polarize the Generator, not the Regulator. And I also seem to remember that you remove the Field wire from the Reg, (so as not to damage it) and touch it to Batt. to encourage the correct direction of current flow. Correct me if I'm wrong.

The auto parts stores that test altenators may still be able to test a generator. But, I do not think that the reg. can be tested, at lease I do not remember that ever being able to test them.
ElectrosisDoc, you do polarize at the reg.
