Ford Fairlane Ford Fairlane was produced from 1955 through 1969. The original body design was the full sized Ford body which started out as a family vehicle and slowly evolved into many different available models and body styles. The exterior paint and trim options, seemed endless with elaborate cloth woven seat covers and a rainbow of paint combinations.

Yes it is the same. I'm not sure but the flywheel may be different.

A lot will depend on what kind of transmission you have and what year the 289 is. Ford changed from a "5-bolt" to a "6-bolt" bellhousing bolt pattern in 1965.

Greetings,

I want to go from a 289 to the original 260. I have a 1963 Comet S-22 Sportster hardtop. I bought it thinking it had the original 260, but turns out it is a 289. It has a factory four-speed. The transmission is still original. I am no mechanic, but it looks like it matched up for me. Not sure on this, but maybe it might help.

Take care,

Tom

paso ranchero is right about the change from 5 bolt to 6 bolt on the bellhousing to engine mount. Key to know if either engine change will fit is to check the number of bolts. 260 had 5 bolts, 64 and 65 289s had 5 also. 289s after 65 and 302s etc - 6 bolts
