Radio in a 64 fairlane 500...

ive got a 1964 ford fairlane, that i have been driving daily for about 3 months (its my first car). its got the 260 with the 2 speed auto, and its got the generator and voltage regulator.

The original AM radio does not cut it, especially with no antenna and no good stations in the area...

im going to keep the original radio in the car, but we're fabricting a mini console to hang under the dash with a new radio.

Here's my question...
Does the old generator have the capacity to push a newer head unit and 4 speakers? maybe one sub? (if i install a small amp also)....

has anybody put a newer radio in a car with a generator?

i would go for it, and install it, but i dont wanna be that noob 17 year old to destroy a good car for a new radio. im not one of those.
