Ford Fairlane Ford Fairlane was produced from 1955 through 1969. The original body design was the full sized Ford body which started out as a family vehicle and slowly evolved into many different available models and body styles. The exterior paint and trim options, seemed endless with elaborate cloth woven seat covers and a rainbow of paint combinations.

My daughter and I are going to fix up my 59 fairlane for her to drive to high school. I need a new engine. 1>what year 390 will fit as a direct bolt in I read something about 3 or 4 bolts in the motor mount on 64 and older years or something like that. 2> Will a c-6 bolt in in place of the cruiseomatic if not what type of mods will need to be done. I will rebuild both the engine and trans at a later date but for now i can get her running. Thanks for the advise.

A good junk yard should have a book listing what will interchange with what.

Good luck with the project! My best friend had one of those for a few years. It was a 2 tone white and turqoise, lots of good times.

Nice 2-dr Galaxie 500!! Any year 390cid should work, it just depends on if you are going generator or alternator on the right front block bolt lugs. A C6 will require a moded crossmember, driveshaft, starter, & flywheel. The shift linkage could be 'tweeked' to work IMO.

you are correct about the 3&4 bolt differences in the years I think 1965 was the dividing line between the two.

I'm sorry I just noticed you have a 'wrap around" rear window. This makes it simply a Fairlane 500. The Fairlane Galaxie 500's simply had a different roof, front fender ornaments, & 'Galaxie 500' nameplates on the rear 1/4's. The Galaxie 500's came out mid/late in 1959 and were advertised as more eligant & sharing more T-Bird characteristics (matching roof).

I'm sorry for the confusion, that light color color on the bright pic confused my eyes.
