Ford FairlaneFord Fairlane was produced from 1955 through 1969. The original body design was the full sized Ford body which started out as a family vehicle and slowly evolved into many different available models and body styles. The exterior paint and trim options, seemed endless with elaborate cloth woven seat covers and a rainbow of paint combinations.
I have a 4 door 62 Fairlane 500. It currently has a 260 engine and a 3 speed manual transmission. My gear shifter is on the steering column.
I want to put an automatic transmission in but I don't know what is required to do this. I was told that I could put any AOD, C4, or C6 transmissions in. I was also told that I would need a another fly wheel and maybe a transmission cross member.
Would someone with knowledge of this please reply and advise me on how to choose a transmission and what parts are normally replaced when converting from manual tranny to an automatic transmission.
