Hi!
My Dad has a restored 1967 fairlane 500 vert with a 289 in it, and we havetried several times to fit headers on the car. The first time was using some tri-y's that did not clear the automatic transmission shift linkage. (Its a colum-shifted c4.)
Now, we have bought some hooker 6901hkr headers, which say they are made for the a/t. However, the tubes are bent in such a way that one hits the firewall and another pins the kickdown linkage against the firewall. The rear bolt is close to 1/4" off from the hole position.
After calling hooker, they reccomended just bending the headers with a 2x4 for leverage. However, the tubes are routed in such a way that there wouldn't be anywhere to bend them(or so it seems).
Here are some attached pictures. There is plastic protecting the header for fitment, and they aren't fully in position, however, they should give you an idea of what i am talking about.
What can i do to remedy this issue?
Thanks!
Neill
