Ford Fairlane Ford Fairlane was produced from 1955 through 1969. The original body design was the full sized Ford body which started out as a family vehicle and slowly evolved into many different available models and body styles. The exterior paint and trim options, seemed endless with elaborate cloth woven seat covers and a rainbow of paint combinations.

Default Starting problem in 67 XL 500 w/390

Hi all. I'm new here. Have a 67 XL 500 w/ 390. It sits a LOT. I stupidly let it sit for the last 6 mo or so. Now when I try to start it (I disconnected the battery while it sat) I get a grinding noise. I suspect it's the starter. It's not the weak little grinding noise that's typical of a nearly dead battery. It's a pretty loud noise, and it does it even when jumped w/ another vehicle. Is the starter toast? Sorry, been a while since I did much car tinkering. Thanks!

Can you turn the motor over by hand or with a knuckle-buster bar?

Yes, I put a breaker bar on the crank and turned it pretty easily. What's next? Thanks!

I would start with the starter as the bendix may not be kicking in all the way or you may have a worn starter ring gear on the flywheel (not usual, but) .
